I do think that there are over 4 thousand religions because in 1962 there were around 163 countries and there are more than just one religion in each country. I also think that there were over 4,000 religions in 1962 because right now in the present year of 2015 there have approximately 4,200 different religions and since 1962 was 53 years ago I do think that in 53 years we could have gained 200 more religions. So maybe the different religions grew quickly just like the population of the world since in 1962 the world had about 3.1 billion people and now has 7 billion and in religions we have added around 200 since 1962.
