I'm going to use some of the sentence on page 82 where it uses "Whisper thin" to show what it means. I was trying to open it just a tiny bit so a whisper-thin stream of gas would noiselessly escape into the air. So the way whisper-thin was used in the sentence was meaning that a small stream of gas would noiselessly escape into the air. So Whisper-thin = Small. One way to remember that, is to think what whisper means and it means to talk quietly and thin means small or skinny but think of it as small and quiet means to have small noise so they both add up to small.
I think that Whisper thin means to whisper really quietly in the book Jack use whisper thin for gas he only wanted to let a whisper thin of gas in the air so it won't be or it won't have that much gas in the air.
