Maybe because Jack was trying hard to control his emotions but his nose only bleeds when he's Excited or spooked as said on page 8. Unless in the book spooked means the same as scared so then maybe he was just thinking about different emotions instead of spooked/Scared.
Because he only bleed when he get spooked or excited as it says on page 8 thats why he didn't bleed and he would only bleed if he actually saw a dead person or if Bunny spooked him about dead people.
