Jack's mom wanted a job for the exact same reason most people would want a job, which was the fact that she could get money.
Jacks mom wanted a job to help pay for food and supplies. People have problems paying for stuff like that sometimes they have problems paying for rent. They,she needs to support her family what better way to do it then to get a job.
Jack's mom wanted to get a job for money like other people, and buy food, supplies,furniture,and clothes.
So that she could get more money.
