I would have told the truth because he was already in a lot of trouble and if she were to find out later that Jack lied to her he would probably get into even more trouble then he would have if he had just told her the truth so I would have told her the truth. Another reason I would have told my mom the truth is because if you step up for the actions you have made you will get in less trouble and if I were to lie to my parents I would be scared and anxious every day all day to get the day over with.
I would have done what Jack did and then tell her later because I want to find out what happens next while the house is being on fire because if I had told her the truth the right minute I wouldn't have seen what happened.
