Maybe because he just wanted his nose to stop bleeding and was getting tired of having to clean up his blood messes or he might have been not thinking just did it because he felt like it.
I think he did the surgery because he wanted to help his mom and dad from having to pay a lot of money to do the surgery on Jack. That way it was for free and free costs nothing. I also think he was done not being able to do what he wants to do and not have to worry if his nose is gonna start up.
